Mike Taylor is a professional landscape astrophotographer and instructor. He teaches photography and post-processing workshops in Maine and select areas of the US. His recent work has centered around photographing the night sky and editing the footage to be included in Shot In The Dark, his first time lapse film. The Secret Galaxy, a children’s book about the Milky Way that features Mike’s night photography, was published in October 2014. Mike’s images and articles have been featured on Space.com, NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day, The Weather Channel, NBC News, Yahoo! News and more. Mike is a contributing member of the International Dark-Sky Association, an organization that helps to raise public awareness of artificial light pollution and its negative effects on human health, wildlife, safety and energy waste.
For the Easy Inspiration shoot, Mike knew that he wanted to find some unique spots to photograph the vehicles at night, mostly under dark starry skies and occasionally with the help of moonlight. The locations he chose in Maine included Roque Bluffs State Park, Moosehead Lake, and Acadia National Park. All the images that Mike supplied for the project are single long exposures that vary from 20 seconds to 7 minutes and include night sky features: the Milky Way, colorful green airglow, full moonlight, star trails that show the motion of the night sky, and the always impressive Northern Lights.
