Nate is a resident of Mount Desert Island (MDI) and has avidly been photographing in and around Acadia National Park since 2000. Captivating landscapes and dynamic weather inspired Nate to pursue photography shortly after moving to MDI from Boston in 1999. His first camera was a nearly 1000 dollar 3megapixel digital that allowed for thousands of mistakes and the occasional success and spurred what has since become a raison d’etre of sorts.
Nate’s work is rooted in the classical approach of the masters of the large format film cameras of the western landscapes while using state of the art current digital technology and developing processes. Using architectural lenses and black glass filters allows view camera like imagery with the advantages of contemporary digital workflow. When not out in the park photographing, Nate can be found hauling lobster traps on Blue Hill Bay or procrastinating mowing the lawn again.
